The birth certificate shows Randle, or Randall as he was later writing his
name, was born on the 5th July 1886, son of William and Sarah Ann Pettit
(Middleditch), at 48 Bramford Road, Ipswich. His next appearance is
in the 1891 census, aged 5, living at the 'Staff of Life' beerhouse, with his
parents and siblings Elizabeth, Bertha, Arthur, James and Hilda. He
then shows in the 1901 census, where he is shown living with his mother Sarah
Ann, brother Arthur and sister Hilda. His father had died by this
time, and the others had no doubt flown the nest and started their own working
lives.
A search of the marriage registers produced a very strong possibility for the marriage of Randall, it being Randall F Pettitt Q2 1914 Hackney 1b 823, with the spouse's name of Dansey. The certificate has not yet been obtained, but will be for verification. Despite not having the certificate, the strong likelihood that this entry does relate to Randall led to a search being taken of the birth registers, where all entries of Pettit(t) births were checked. At this time, all births show the mother's maiden name in the register, which is a fantastic aid to searching, but no entries were found, so it can only be assumed that the marriage of Randall and and his wife was childless. There was the possibility that Randall had died during the First World War, but no entries were found on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site to indicate the event. However, the search engine at Ancestry.com does not provide an entry for the death of Randall either, so a manual search will be carried out until such time as the event is found.
