Robert Edward Peek was born on the 5th December 1865, the son of Edward, a
journeyman joiner, and Mary Ann Peek. He appears in the 1871, 1891
and 1901 census records, but he has not been found in the 1881 records at
present, perhaps because he followed in the family tradition of going to sea, so
perhaps he was away on the night of that particular census. In the
1871 and 1891 records he is shown as a single man, but he married on the 30th
May 1895, and although wife Margaret Annie appears in the 1901 census with
children George, Robert, Leonard and Gladys it would seem that once again the
sea called him away, and he was not present in the house. From the 1901
census, apart from intermittent appearances as a father on various birth
certificates, the trail goes cold until his death on the 11th august 1938, aged
72.
1901 Census
 |
 |
| This census finds Margaret at home, without husband
Robert, perhaps because he was away at sea. With her in the
house at 5 Beach Stone Place, Pakefield were sons George, aged 4, Robert
3, Leonard 2, and daughter Gladys aged1. |

Birth Certificate
 |
| The birth certificate for Robert confirms his birth date as the 5th
December 1865, son of Edward William and Mary Ann Peek. The
certificate shows Mary Ann's maiden name as Forster, and father Edward
as a Journeyman Joiner. The birth was reported by Edward,
and registered on the 14th January 1866 by Samuel Smith, Registrar. |

Marriage Certificate
 |
| This is a copy of the original marriage certificate for Robert, and
shows both his and his new wife's handwriting. The
certificate also shows Robert is aged 29, and Margaret aged 23.
Robert's occupation is the same as that of his father Edward, both of
them being Trawlermen, with Margaret's father George William Eavey
showing as an Ostler. The pair were married in the Parish
Church of Kirkley, the witnesses being Martin George Eavey and Syrena
Eliza Eavey. |

Death Certificate
 |
| Robert's death certificate shows that he died of a cerebral
haemorrhage, aged 72, on the 11th August 1938 at 61 Lorne Road.
His occupation was given as being formerly a nightwatchman, fishing
vessels. The informant was son W M Peek, (Billy), of 22
Kirkley Street, who was present at the death. The death was
registered on the same day, by James G Warner, Registrar. |
